St Clair - FAQs

St Clair Artists Impression

Why are we doing this?

As a part of our focus on Building for Tomorrow, we are revitalising the St Clair Precinct, recognising the area as a significant place within our community. The infrastructure within the precinct, which includes our immunisation clinic as well as open spaces, is vital to the future of our City.

The newly constructed St Clair Recreation Centre is South Australia’s only six court stadium, complete with universal change rooms, roller skating rink and gymnasium.

The landscaping, outdoor regional play spaces and skate park will also provide opportunity for our community to connect in a large recreational space outdoors.

How long will the works take?

The St Clair Recreation Centre will be completed in October 2018, and we are launching the building in a public launch on Sunday 25 November 2018.

The outdoor play spaces, skate park and landscaping works will begin in 2019 with an estimated completion date of November 2019.

What happens now the building is complete?

We have entered into a partnership with YMCA South Australia. YMCA SA was successful in their tender for the management of the Centre due to their extensive experience in delivering recreational and leisure services with a strong community focus. They are committed to providing high quality programs and services that are tailored to the demographics and needs of local communities.

YMCA SA will work closely with existing clubs and stakeholders who have a long history in using St Clair including Woodville High School and Woodville Warriors Basketball Club.

Who undertook the building works?

Badge Constructions was awarded the building contract, and delivered practical completion of the project on time and within budget. We recognise their fantastic work in helping us deliver an incredible facility.

Who is doing the play spaces and landscaping?

We will go out to tender to procure a contractor for the outdoor works early in 2019.

How much will the work cost?

The St Clair Recreation Centre cost $21m, with a total precinct cost of $26million. Carparking, tennis courts, paths and access to the precinct are to be all upgraded within the scope of works.

The outdoor play spaces and skate park has a budget of $2m.

Was the whole centre rebuilt?

The front portion of the existing building was identified as local heritage and was retained with the balance of the facility replaced.

Where will the tennis courts go?

Six tennis courts remain in the precinct for school and community use.

Is the St Clair Avenue being done with these works?

The Avenue works were constructed at the same time as the building revitalisation. The State Government will complete the work before the end of 2018.
