In the City of Charles Sturt, we have beautiful natural areas to walk, run or cycle. Our infrastructure is also designed to encourage and promote walking, running and cycling all across our City.
You can visit the River Torrens Linear Park, your local beach or one of our many parks, reserves and playgrounds.

Walking
Heart Foundation Walking is Australia's largest network of free community-based walking groups, led by volunteer Walk Organisers.
The aim of Heart Foundation Walking groups is to make regular physical activity enjoyable and easy, especially for people who are not used to being active. Walking groups can be any size, and walk at various times, days, lengths and levels of difficulty. Everyone is encouraged to walk at their own pace.
The City Of Charles Sturt has joined in partnership with Heart Foundation Walking and currently has a number of walking groups led by local residents who are volunteers. Below is a list of the walking groups currently participating in this exciting program:

The City of Charles Sturt Free Bike Hire service is available to our community.
There is a lot to see and do in Charles Sturt when you loan a bike for the day, such as visiting the many parks, places, playgrounds and cultural and historic sites.

Bike hire
The City of Charles Sturt Free Bikes service is currently available to residents, visitors and workers from the following location:
Hindmarsh Library
139 Port Road, Hindmarsh

Condtions of hire
- To hire our bikes, a valid ID with proof of address must be presented and held by staff for the duration of the hire.
- Helmets and locks are provided as part of the hire if required.
- Bikes need to returned to Hindmarsh Library 30 minutes before we close (see our opening hours) on the same day they were hired.
- We are unable to place holds on bikes but you can call us to check availability on the day.
- Bikes for kids aged 7-10 years are available under adult supervision.

Bike Maintenance Stations
The council supports cycling and undertakes initiatives to encourage the use of cycling within the city. We now have free bike maintenance stands to allow cyclists to conveniently maintain their bicycles.

- Secure stands to hold the bicycle during repairs
- A range of retractable tools for minor repair works
- A stainless steel bike pump

If you can’t fix your bike at a bike maintenance station, you could check with your roadside insurer to see if they offer a repair service as we note some insurers do extend cover to their customer’s bicycles. There are also great bike shops around Charles Sturt that can repair bikes too.
